This project explores the molecular mechanisms regulating the balance between pluripotency and tumor formation in stem cells, using the chordate Botryllus schlosseri as a model. It aims to identify gene networks that could inform safer stem cell therapies.
The potential formation of teratoma/teratocarcinoma from pluripotent stem cells represents one the main obstacles to safe use stem cell-based regenerative therapy.
The gene network that regulates the stem cell tumoreginicity is still largely unknown.
