This project explores the role of international law in addressing climate change by rethinking the concept of territory. It advocates for incorporating the notion of place to better understand environmental relations and enhance state obligations regarding climate issues.
International law is increasingly being called upon in response to climate change and environmental harm.
International courts and tribunals have been asked by States to clarify State obligations in respect to climate change through advisory proceedings, and human rights treaty bodies and courts are seeing a dramatic proliferation of climate-related litigation and complaints.
