The Photo-Single-Molecule-Magnets project explores the use of light to alter the magnetic and optical properties of molecular-scale magnets. This research could lead to new technologies for data storage that are faster and consume less energy than traditional silicon-based systems.
The integration of molecular-scale components in circuits may ultimately allow the replacement of silicon-based electronics by high speed systems with low energy consumption.
