The PHOTOCURE project focuses on developing a novel wound patch that uses photocatalytic technology to combat antibiotic-resistant infections in chronic wounds. This drug-free solution aims to effectively treat skin and soft tissue infections without relying on traditional antibiotics.
Antibiotic-resistant bacterial skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are difficult to diagnose and treat, prolonging hospital stays and lowering quality of life.
Chronic wounds harbour antibiotic-resistant microorganisms that form biofilms, leading to conditions like diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs).
