This project develops a novel platform for assessing drug-induced tissue damage and the immune response, addressing a critical gap in preclinical toxicity testing. The platform, PHIVIDIAS, aims to provide comprehensive and animal-free evaluations.
Drug-induced tissue damage and the associated risk for developing auto-immune secondary disease is fully ignored in preclinical toxicity testing.
As a consequence, there are currently 300 drugs on the market that cause drug-induced auto-immune-mediated interstitial lung disease.
In their regulatory documents, EMA and FDA strongly advocate for inclusion of tests to address this type of adverse effects in preclinical research.
