This research program explores the chemistry of oxidizing agents in the atmosphere, focusing on carbonyl oxides and their role in producing hydroxyl radicals. It employs advanced experimental techniques to understand reaction rates and mechanisms relevant to atmospheric chemistry.
The research program will seek to explore the mechanisms and formation/reaction rates of various oxidizing agents pertinent to tropospheric chemistry, using cutting-edge experimental apparatuses and theoretical methods.
Firstly, the decay of carbonyl oxides (Criegee intermediates – CIs) will be explored as an important source of OH radicals – fundamental species for the tropospheric oxidizing capability.
This will be achieved via a combination of thermal and collision-free experimental measureme…
