PANDA aims to create a photonic quantum computer by developing a system of neutral rubidium atoms that enables efficient photon-photon interactions. This technology will facilitate advanced quantum information processing applications, particularly in continuous-variable quantum computing.
The quantum properties of photons -- allowing low-loss long-distance transmission, multiplexing large amounts of quantum information into a single channel, and operations in standard, room-temperature settings -- yield great promise for scalable quantum computing (QC).
