This project aims to establish a reliable timeline for the Middle to Upper Palaeolithic transition in Eurasia, focusing on the dispersal of modern humans and the extinction of Neanderthals. By employing advanced dating techniques, it will analyze over 50 key archaeological sites across Eastern Europe to Siberia.
This proposal addresses the chronology of the Middle to Upper Palaeolithic transition of Eurasia, the period between ~60-30,000 years ago, during which the first modern humans dispersed out of Africa into the Old World and Neanderthals disappeared.
This is a crucially important interval for understanding late human evolution and the reasons leading to the global dominance of our species.
