This project focuses on developing microbial cells that convert waste into fuels and chemicals, promoting a sustainable economy. It trains PhD students in metabolic engineering to advance biorefinery technologies.
The world economy is dependent on fossil resources: oil, gas and coal.
The fossil resources are finite and their consumptioncauses catastrophic environmental changes.
Therefore we need to move towards sustainable economy using renewableresources for energy and chemicals production.
Via metabolic engineering approach, novel microbial cells can be createdthat can convert biomass and waste into fuels and chemicals.
Metabolic engineering however distinguishes itself from otherengineering disciplines…
