This project investigates the physical properties of lipid membranes, particularly how protein crowding affects membrane behavior. By studying lipid droplets and vesicle formation, the research aims to understand the role of membrane composition in cellular processes and reactions.
Cellular compartments are separated by membranes composed of a lipid bilayer with embedded proteins.
An exception are lipid droplets (LDs), which consist of a neutral lipid core and a protein-containing phospholipid monolayer.
Many cellular reactions occur on organellar surfaces and necessitate changes in their physical organization.
