The P.CAP project develops a new type of capacitor that operates efficiently at high temperatures and frequencies, offering an alternative to traditional aluminum and tantalum capacitors. This technology aims to enhance energy storage solutions for demanding applications like electric vehicles.
Capacitors are ubiquitous in any electronic device, with aluminium and tantalum electrolytic capacitors used whenever larger capacitances are required.
However, they suffer from reliability issues, especially when operating at high temperatures: a temperature increase of 10 ºC halves their life.
