This project investigates the impact of atmospheric oxygen levels on plant evolution over the past billion years. By analyzing fossil records and conducting experiments in controlled environments, it aims to understand how oxygen fluctuations influenced major reproductive and vegetative innovations in plants.
The evolution of complex organisms over one billion years ago is intimately linked with a rise in atmospheric oxygen levels (O2) over a critical threshold that would support essential metabolic processes.
