This project focuses on restoring shallow lakes by using fossil ostracod shell chemistry to directly measure phosphate levels. It aims to establish reference conditions for lake restoration and predict the impact of climate change on freshwater biodiversity.
Shallow lakes provide extensive ecosystem services and are ecologically important non-marine resources, supporting a diverse flora and fauna.
However, worldwide lakes are threatened by environmental degradation (e.g. nutrient pollution from agricultural fertilizers).
