The ORCHIDE project focuses on developing a secure and efficient framework for processing data from Earth Observation satellites. By leveraging Unikernel technology, it aims to enhance the deployment of image processing applications directly in space, reducing latency and improving data accessibility.
On Earth Observation missions, payloads become more complex with more and more instruments collecting a huge amount of data that cannot be fully downloaded and needs to be processed on board.
Most of the existing solutions allowing deployment and orchestration of applications at the edge relies on de-facto standard technologies coming from the cloud computing area but the community recognizes a need to adapt them for edge computing contexts such as space systems.
