This project explores the formation of silicon-based materials through the study of silicate speciation in dilute solutions. By using advanced nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, it aims to understand the morphological changes during the synthesis process.
The silicate speciation process is of large scientific and industrial interest because determines the morphology and reactivity of the silica products and biological control of the silica morphology has generated an interest for novel mechanisms for biomimetic silica synthesis.
