This project investigates the biomechanics and optics of the eye to improve understanding of vision changes over time. It aims to develop innovative treatments and technologies, such as intraocular implants and biologically relevant eye models, through interdisciplinary research and training for young scientists.
The eye is a biological tissue with optical and biomedical properties that govern the way the eye refracts light, focuses thatlight onto the retina and can dynamically alter that focus over a range of distances.
This impressive flexibility results from thedelicate way in which the mechanical properties of the eye very precisely affect its optics.
