This project develops a novel method to study the activity of new neurons in the adult mammalian brain's dentate gyrus, focusing on their role in learning and memory. By combining in vivo recordings with optogenetics, it aims to identify how these neurons respond to spatial information during behavior.
The idea that neurogenesis in the mammalian brain only takes place during development has been abandoned.
