NILOMORPH investigates the unique evolution of a linguistic system in East African languages, where multiple grammatical categories are expressed in a single syllable. The project aims to reconstruct this linguistic change and understand the cognitive motivations behind it.
NILOMORPH sets out to explain how linguistic evolution took a highly unexpected turn in one family of languages spoken in East Africa.
