Next Generation Taxonomy (NGTax) aims to revitalize the field of taxonomy by integrating advanced genomics and bioinformatics techniques. The project focuses on studying ciliates and their symbionts, promoting a multidisciplinary approach to enhance the characterization of eukaryotic organisms.
Taxonomy - the science of defining and naming groups of biological organisms based on shared characteristics - faced a significant crisis in the last decades and nowadays a rejuvenation of this discipline is required.
