NEWAPP seeks to transform wet biomass waste into valuable resources through innovative heat recovery technologies. By developing efficient processes for hydrothermal carbonization, the project aims to create sustainable solutions for managing organic waste, reducing reliance on landfilling and incineration.
3 billion tonnes of biomass waste are produced each year in the European Union.
From these, a substantial amount is organic waste.
These wet biomass waste streams are abundantly available in Europe, while their disposal and recycling becomes increasingly difficult as energy efficient, environmentally sound and economically viable processes hardly exist.
