This project investigates the role of leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptors (LILRs) in regulating neutrophil functions during immune responses. It aims to identify bacterial ligands that interact with LILRs and their potential therapeutic applications in infection and inflammation.
Neutrophils provide the first-line of antimicrobial defence and orchestrate inflammation.
They are tightly regulated by ligand-receptor interactions to ensure pathogen clearance and to prevent host damage.
Targeting receptors, with natural or synthetic ligands, that control neutrophil functions is a promising strategy to control infections and inflammation.
However, basic knowledge on the role of certain receptors in neutrophil biology, and their interactions with pathogens, has been neglected.…
