This project investigates how pregnancy alters brain circuits related to taste and eating behavior, leading to cravings for high-calorie foods. By studying these changes in mice, it aims to understand the implications for maternal and offspring health, particularly concerning obesity and eating disorders.
Pregnancy entails remarkable whole-body biological adaptations.
Extensive evidence in humans shows significant alterations in taste perception and nutrient preference throughout pregnancy, resulting in frequent food cravings with a recurrent search for high-caloric, high-palatable foods.
