The NeuroblastORG project aims to create a human organoid model that mimics the development of neuroblastoma cells from the neural crest. This model will help researchers study the mechanisms of therapy resistance in high-risk neuroblastoma, ultimately leading to improved treatment strategies for affected children.
Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common cancer in infants and the 3rd most common cancer in children.
According to the WHO 90% of NBs occur in children younger than 5 years old and 15% of all pediatric cancer related death are due to NB.
Approximately 20% of NB cases are characterized by the amplification of the MYCN gene, which is linked to more aggressive tumors and poor prognosis (high-risk NB).
Despite recent treatment advances, relapsing high-risk NB often leads to death.
