The central theme of this project is elucidating and exploiting the reactivity of metal carbenes on well-defined surfaces.
We propose to use surface science techniques in vacuo (mainly scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, temperature programmed reactions, near edge X-ray adsorption fine structure and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) to address olefin metathesis reactions and provide an understanding at the single molecule level.
