NANORIBS is a project focused on developing a new ribosome profiling technique that provides detailed insights into how ribosomes translate specific messenger RNA sequences. This research aims to understand the role of ribosomal modifications in cell differentiation and gene expression.
Ribosomes, once considered uniform molecular entities, are now recognized for their compositional heterogeneity, challenging traditional views on their role in gene expression.
This has led to the hypothesis of 'specialised' ribosomes that selectively translate specific mRNA subsets, though the extent of this specialisation, particularly in cell fate determination, remains debated.
Recent findings suggest that rRNA modifications, such as 2’-O methylation, may drive ribosomal specialisation durin…
