NAIADES focuses on developing sodium-ion battery technology for large-scale energy storage, aiming to provide a cost-effective alternative to lithium-ion batteries. The project seeks to demonstrate the feasibility of these batteries in real-world applications to support the integration of renewable energy sources.
Wide scale implementation of renewable energy will require growth in production of inexpensive, efficient energy storage systems.
The extension of battery technology to large-scale storage will become necessary as intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and wave become more prevalent and integrated into electrical grid.
