This project develops a novel tool to adapt arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi to heavy metal contaminated soils, enhancing their tolerance and effectiveness in promoting plant growth and soil quality. The focus is on the species Rhizophagus irregularis, aiming to improve soil remediation techniques in agriculture and enviro…

AMF inocula are produced commercially and used to enhance plant growth and soil quality in agriculture and environmental restoration. A system is needed allowing AMF inocula to be tailor-made, providing AMF that are adapted or tolerant to given stressful environments.
At present, this does not exist.
It is also unknown how AMF can adapt to a given environment.
