The MuTILDa project examines the linguistic variation among speakers of an indigenous heritage language in diaspora. By comparing language use among different generations, it aims to understand the impact of bilingualism and cross-linguistic influence on language development.
Bilingual speakers of a Heritage Language (HL)—a language acquired naturalistically from early childhood, but distinct from the dominant language of the larger society—often display innovation and variation.
