The increasing incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer (EO-CRC) points to an unknown, possibly preventable, cause. A strong candidate is the gut microbiome.
Experimental studies show certain bacterial strains can affect CRC onset, potentially by producing genotoxins that induce cancer-driving mutations.
