The project focuses on developing a novel imaging system to monitor protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases. By combining molecular and functional imaging techniques, it aims to create biomarkers for disease progression and treatment response, paving the way for personalized therapies.
Despite remarkable progress in the understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases (NDD), no causative or disease-modifying treatment is currently available.
Aggregation of misfolded proteins are thought to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis, but attempts to exploit this knowledge for novel treatments have not been successful.
