This project focuses on improving the understanding of carbon capture and storage in geological formations. It investigates how geological heterogeneity affects the processes involved in trapping carbon dioxide, aiming to enhance modeling tools for safer and more effective carbon storage.
Carbon capture and storage in geological formations has been proposed in the last ten years to reduce the emissions of CO2 to the atmosphere.
Geological storage consists in injecting supercritical CO2 into deep aquifers so that it remains trapped under a low permeability caprock.
