This project develops self-assembling implants designed to regenerate tissue and bone in critical-size defects using minimally invasive techniques. The implants utilize superelastic materials and incorporate hydrogels and functional structures to stimulate healing and monitor progress.
The treatment of critical-size defects—too large to heal naturally—is typically approached with invasive surgical procedures or external fixation devices, with the associated long rehabilitation times, emotional exhaustion, and high failure rates.
