This project investigates the use of Prominin-1 as a marker for isolating neural stem cells in the adult hippocampus. It aims to identify molecules that activate dormant neural precursors to generate new neurons, potentially leading to innovative therapies for neurodegenerative diseases affecting the hippocampus.
The hippocampus contains a population of stem cells that continually proliferate to produce new neurons.
The development of new markers capable of identifying and isolating defined neural stem cell populations are of utmost importance.
