This project investigates the formation of ultra-cold molecules in optical lattices, focusing on atom-atom interactions and the resulting quantum effects. It aims to explore applications in creating strongly-correlated states of matter for studying quantum correlations and information processing.
Motivated by recent successes on the creation of ground-state, ultra-cold molecules particularly in experiments in Orsay (France) and Innsbruck (Austria), we want to address several questions on the possibility and future prospects to create a molecular gas trapped in an optical lattice.
The use of optical lattices in experiments with cold atoms, pioneered by the group of Immanuel Bloch at Garching (Germany) has led to a new research field, directed to the simulation of condensed matter systems…
