This project aims to identify new drug targets by investigating the molecular networks that influence receptor tyrosine kinase signaling during cancer progression. It focuses on understanding how these networks can be manipulated to develop second-line therapies for cancer treatment.
Cancer is a major socio-economic problem in EU, with approximately 2.5 million cases diagnosed and 1.2 million deaths every year, and an annual estimated cost of 15 billion € for cancer therapy.
Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression have revolutionized the field of targeted therapies, generating a growing number of inhibitors approved for use in the clinic.
In particular, drugs targeting receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) have been successful.
