This project explores how migrants access social protection in Europe amidst economic challenges and changing policies. It integrates social policy and migration studies to analyze cross-border strategies that migrants use to cope with social risks, focusing on health, pensions, and unemployment.
The negative employment and social developments across Europe since the start of the crisis, coupled with increased fiscal constraints and changing migration patterns, have led to increasing depictions of EU and third-country immigrants as ‘abusers’ of their social protection systems.
