This project investigates the role of microRNAs in gene regulation, particularly how they repress target messenger RNAs. By studying the mechanisms of this repression, including the involvement of specific protein motifs, the project aims to enhance understanding of RNA metabolism and gene expression control.
miRNAs are crucial regulators of gene expression that target more than half of eukaryotic genes and play a role in human diseases, including cancer and neurological disorders.
Therefore, it is important to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying miRNA-mediated repression. miRNAs act as guides recognizing their target mRNAs by partial complementarity and recruiting a complex of proteins that represses mRNA expression.
