The MIRACLE-AD project investigates neurovascular coupling in the retina to understand its role in Alzheimer's disease. By combining advanced imaging techniques, the project aims to identify biomarkers and develop targeted therapies for early detection and intervention in Alzheimer's pathology.
Neurovascular coupling (NVC) regulates blood flow to meet the metabolic demands of neural activity by delivering oxygen and nutrients.
Its dysfunction is a hallmark of several neurological disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), where early NVC impairment contributes to disease progression.
