The MinOx project investigates Nitrate-Reducing Iron-Oxidizing microorganisms that play a vital role in biogeochemical cycles. It explores their ability to utilize iron-bearing minerals, aiming to understand their ecological impact and potential applications in water management.
Nitrate-Reducing Iron-Oxidizing (NRFeOx) microorganisms, which couple Fe(II) oxidation to nitrate reduction using organic matter or carbon dioxide as a carbon source, play an essential role on a global scale in three of the most important biogeochemical cycles: iron, carbon and nitrogen.
