This project focuses on the metabolism of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, particularly the small molecules it releases during infection. The goal is to identify these metabolites and understand their role in the interaction between the bacterium and host immune response.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB), exhibits an intracellular lifestyle, thriving within host macrophages.
This remarkable ability to evade macrophage-mediated killing and withstand the challenges posed by the host environment hinges largely on its exceptional capacity to adapt its metabolism in response to the diverse conditions encountered during infection.
