This project explores the generation of optical frequency combs using micro resonators made from silica and crystal materials. The focus is on developing these combs for applications as reference oscillators and calibration tools for spectrographs, enhancing precision in optical frequency metrology.
Optical frequency combs have revolutionized optical frequency metrology in just a few years.
They have made it possible to directly count light field oscillations of several 100 million cycles per second.
Traditionally they have been created with mode locked ultra short pulse lasers.
In this project we propose to investigate frequency comb generation based on monolithic micro resonators.
