This project investigates the role of interorganelle communication in metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease. By developing imaging probes, it aims to understand the interactions between mitochondria and peroxisomes and their impact on lipid metabolism.
Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is the liver manifestation of metabolic syndrome, consisting in a hepatic accumulation of lipids.
While MAFLD is predicted to concern near 50% of the global adult population in 2040, no medication has been developed to counter its progression.
