The MESMER-X project develops a model to predict climate extremes under various scenarios, addressing a gap in current climate assessments. By coupling this model with existing frameworks, it aims to provide insights for land use and policy decisions, contributing to climate resilience in Europe.
Climate extremes count among the most impactful consequences of climate change, also under low-emissions scenarios consistent with the aims of the Paris agreement.
However, they are not factored in the derivation of emissions scenarios informing international policy options in reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
