MERIDIONAL is developing an open-source tool chain to assess the performance of wind energy systems at various altitudes. It focuses on modeling unsteady inflow conditions and interactions among turbines to improve efficiency and reduce costs in wind farm design.
The wind industry is developing wind turbines and airborne wind energy devices which span altitudes well above the well-studied surface layer.
A full understanding of the unsteady inflow conditions which drive loads and performance at these altitudes is lacking.
