This project investigates the mechanisms of working memory in the auditory cortex using advanced imaging and optogenetics. By analyzing neural activity and connectivity, it aims to reveal how information is retained and processed in the brain's auditory regions.
Working memory refers to the brain capacity for encoding sensory stimuli and maintaining information suspended for imminent processing, over a short timespan (few seconds).
This ability is crucial for numerous simple and intricate tasks in humans and animals (keeping in mind a sequence, learning, speech…).
Despite its importance, the mechanisms underlying this process remain largely unknown.
