MeerGas aims to understand how galaxies acquire neutral hydrogen, essential for star formation. Using advanced observations from the MeerKAT radio telescope, the project will investigate gas accretion processes in nearby galaxies to enhance knowledge of galaxy evolution.
Neutral hydrogen drives galaxy evolution.

However, there is not enough present in galaxies to sustain star formation over the lifetime of the universe.
Galaxies must acquire their gas from an external source through an as yet undetected process.
