This project investigates how elevated temperatures and iron enrichment affect the health and metabolism of Mediterranean corals. Using advanced microsensing technologies, it aims to develop a new index for assessing coral health and provide insights for environmental management in response to climate change.
Mediterranean corals live in habitats with naturally high fluctuations of temperature and salinity, which could enable their survival under future extreme climatic scenarios.
The nutritional status of corals is linked to the uptake of several micronutrients, which support cellular metabolism and growth.
