This research focuses on understanding and inhibiting ATP Binding Cassette transporters in bacteria, which are crucial for their virulence. By studying these transport systems, the project aims to lay the groundwork for developing new antibiotics.
In the past 20 years, we have witnessed a constant rise in bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
Paradoxically, this has been accompanied by an almost complete exodus of pharmaceutical companies from the antibiotics market.
As a result we are facing a situation where our antibacterial toolkit is much depleted and outdated.
