This project focuses on understanding the formation of biofilms, particularly by the pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa, on medical device surfaces. It aims to develop a mathematical model to visualize and predict biofilm growth, which could inform the design of better medical implants.
Biofilms play a pivotal role in healthcare-associated infections, especially those related to indwelling medical devices, such as intra-vascular and urinary catheters, cardiac pacemakers and orthopaedic implants.
