This project develops a microfluidic system to study phytoplankton's release of alkaline phosphatase enzymes in response to environmental changes. It aims to identify species and their enzymatic activity at a single-cell level, enhancing understanding of their survival strategies in nutrient-depleted waters.
Climate change is affecting the hydrodynamics of the world’s oceans and lead to an increase of the ocean stratification.
This ocean stratification tends to trap phytoplankton in the nutrient depleted surface layer.
